Building Wells for development, opportunity, and of course, clean water.

Several countries in Africa are suffering from a severe drought situation. Many people, for example, the Mapanza chiefdom in the Coma district in the Southern province of Zambia with a population of approximately 80,000 people are walking a daily distance of 40-km to collect water to alleviate this drought situation. In many cases, however, the water which people are collecting are unclean and shared among wild animals. There is no luxury to filter or even boil water to make the water cleaner.

To alleviate this harsh situation, currently, Happiness Initiative  is leading a project to build wells starting with the chiefdom of Mapanza. The project began from December 2016, and the construction of a second well is underway.

Building one well costs $3000 USD.

As an example, in the Mapanza chiefdom, one well will allow ~1600 village members out of the 80,000 villagers to have access to drinking water at a closer distance. The goal of Happiness Initiative is to construct 10 wells and expand this project to other countries in Africa such as Zimbabwe and Namibia.

For those sponsoring (individual, company, group) the Happiness Initiative Well Project will be provided the following as proof that their donations reached the people:

1. Sponsor’s name will be engraved to the well.

2. Letter of gratitude from the Chief.

3. Photograph (Banner will be made and names will be engraved to the constructed well).

4. Small token of gratitude, such as hand-carved sculptures.

The access to Asuncion

The Alto Paraguay province is behind in road development.  There are no paved roads despite its huge area (82,000km²), and transportation is almost impossible when it rains. There is only one main road that leads to Fuerte Olimpo city (the capital of this province).

The necessity of Boat

In order to go to Asuncion (the capital of Paraguay), there are 3 methods: road, plane, and boat. The road itself is very unstable because once it rains, the road becomes muddy, and it becomes impossible to travel on the muddy road. This situation isolates the Alto Paraguay Province from the rest of the country. To add on, there are 9 months of rainy season in this area.

A plane can be used for transportation, but there is no paved runways nearby. Even the runway in Olimpo city is unpaved, and planes cannot land when it rains. There is a regular plane (Asuncion-Olimpo) once a week, but once it rains, it is cancelled. The guests come sometimes to Leda by a charter plane but many times, they are obliged to stay one or more days until the runway is safe for landing.

The best options is to use the river.

If Vallemi city (270km from Leda) is reached, there is a paved permanent road to Asuncion (about 600km). There is a regular boat that comes once a week.

We are doing projects of fish farming and agriculture. However, as the road condition is very unstable, there is no secure way to bring products to the market (Asuncion).

Please support us in our efforts to purchase a ferry boat that can carry people, products, and be s source of transportation for this province.
